19-20 December 2018
Mr Nikolaos Bempedelis (ESR 5/UCL) visited two schools near his hometown in Athens, Greece to address students in their final school year. He aimed to motivate his audience – that was about to make their very first career choice – towards research related careers. Mr Bembedelis introduced the HAoS project and the funding opportunities for young researchers that are offered by the European Commission. He used his own example to give an insight into the life of a researcher. Than he tried to draw the students’ attention to his own research area. He presented the importance of fluid mechanics in our daily live with the help of exciting technological applications that can shape our future.
Almost 75 students enjoyed the outreach activities implemented. Their interest was evident: each presentation was followed by long discussions, leading up to sessions that lasted about two hours each. Mr Bembedelis was also very glad to see that both schools updated their websites with information on the implemented activities.
